African Pompano - Alecis cilaris

Family Carangidae, JACKS and POMPANOS

Description: Large flattened fish with silver or pearlescent side and a blunt steeply flowed head. Forward rays of the dorsal and anal finds are very long and threadlike in young fish. Streamers sometimes hang on until adulthood.

Similar fish:

Where found: Usually found in the lower half of the Atlantic coast and in the Keys. Young are often found in shallow reefs, while adults are to be found around deep wrecks.

Size: Average about 15 to 30 pounds.

Remarks:

Florida record: 50 pounds, 8 ounces.

Regulations:

Size Limit: Not less than 24" fork.

Season:

Bag Limit: 2 fish per person or vessel per day whichever is less.

Comments: Hook and line gear only.
Must remain in whole condition until landed ashore (heads and tails intact)
